Glucotrol XL Uses

Glucotrol XL is in a class of drugs called sulfonylureas. It is used to help control blood sugar levels. Glucotrol XL is used to treat noninsulin-dependent (Type II) diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) along with diet, exercise, and insulin therapy, if necessary.

How To Use Glucotrol XL

Take Glucotrol XL exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. For the greatest effect, Glucotrol XL is usually taken at bedtime or with an evening meal. It may also be taken several times a day. Follow your doctor's instructions. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.

These may be early symptoms of heart problems. Although Glucotrol XL does not usually cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hypoglycemia may result from skipped meals, excessive exercise, or alcohol consumption. Carry a piece of hard non-dietetic candy or glucose tablets with you to treat episodes of low blood sugar. Other less serious side effects may also occur.
