Airport Pharmacy
26-Mar-2007: A new type of full-service pharmacy has landed at Newark's Liberty International Airport.
Harmony Pharmacy is the first retail pharmacy to set up shop in a U.S. airport.
"Oh my goodness this is great! That will be perfect for air crews," says flight attendent Vanessa Cheatham.
It combines on-site prescriptions with a walk-in medical center and caters to a built-in crowd, corralled beyond security checkpoints.
Harmony Pharmacy co-founder Kenneth Corroon says "since 9/11 the airport environment in the United States has really changed. People are coming to the airport earlier, spending more time, waiting longer for their aircraft and this is a great time to have a concept like ours at the airport."
"This airport is like a city with 25 thousand employees and millions of passengers expected to pass through the airport this coming year. Many of them will need health care or a place to fill last-minute prescriptions."
Airport worker Brian Cooley is looking forward to the convenience.
"You can actually have something filled and pick it up without having to sit there and wait. You're working, so it makes it a lot faster."
Faster and convenient. One nurse passing through the terminal, said whether it is over-the counter remedies, or doctor prescribed medicine, an airport pharmacy is long overdue.
"If you live in Omaha, Nebraska, and you need your drugs, the pharmacist here can get in touch with your doctor in Omaha, and within an hour you can have your medication"
A new idea that is likely to take-off in other major airports around the country.
