29-Apr-2007: RAJKOT: In an unusual move, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has cancelled some seats of various colleges in Saurashtra, including H N Shukla Pharmacy College of the city and two other colleges located in Junagadh and Surendranagar.

AICTE has posted the information of cancellation or reduction of seats in colleges located at Rajkot, Junagadh and Surendranagar have been highlighted on its website.

All the 60 seats of HN Shukla Pharmacy college of Rajkot have been cancelled, whereas 15 seats of CU Shah Pharmacy college of Surendranagar and 30 out of 60 seats of NR Vekaria Institute of Pharmacy, Junagadh have been cancelled.

According to Nehal Shukla, president of HN Shukla Pharmacy College, Rajkot and syndicate member of Saurashtra University, this step by the AICTE has been taken due to the late submission of compliance report by the concerned college authorities.

However, within a week's time all the 60 seats will be again allotted and posted in the upgraded website of the council.

He also informed that they are upgrading the institute's infrastructure to accommodate more students in the days to come. According to sources in Saurashtra University, the reason for cancellation of 15 seats of CU Shah Pharmacy College, Surendranagar and 30 seats of NR Vekaria Institute of Pharmacy, Junagadh is due to the lack of infrastructure.

Whereas in case of KV Virani Institute of Pharmacy and Research Centre located at Savarkundla of Amreli district, it is not clear as to how many seats will be sanctioned as the matter is under AICTE's deliberation.
